Description
Large Michael Saul Studio Pottery Vase. PROVENANCE: The Collection of Terri Henning, The Peoples Building Penthouse,18 Broad Street and 21 King Street, Charleston SC. As seen in architectural digest. Michael Saul studied at Southwest Craft Center, McNay Art Institute and U.T.S.A. and has been a professional Potter since 1974. Master of Muses Certification was awarded to Michael from Mayor of San Antonio, Lila Cockrell in 1991 prior to four one man shows in Japan. Michael has also exhibited in over 87 invitational and one man shows. His teaching experience includes Majestic Ranch Art School, Southwest School of Art and Craft, City of San Antonio Department of Arts and Cultural Affairs and many workshops throughout the country. Each piece is handmade. The slab built and wheel thrown forms are brought into being by the combination of a sensitive hand and an eye for the dramatic. His experimentation with glazes has thrust him into a wide palette of both colors and textures in which to embrace my pottery. Each piece must be handled at least eighteen times and fired in his kiln for twenty-four hours at a peak temperature of 2400 degrees. These pieces are tested by the fire and only the best survive.
