Description
Sheraton Mahogany and Flame Birch Fold-Top Card Table, Otis Fall, Portsmouth, New Hampshire, 1805-1820. The hinged shaped top with rounded corners above a conforming frieze veneered in flame birch, raised on ring-turned lobed tapering legs ending in peg feet, branded "O. FALL" under the top. H: 29.125 in., W: 36.25 in., D: 18.25 in.(closed), 36.5 in. (open) Provenance: Private Collection, "Important Americana," Sale 5968, Sotheby's, New York, January 24-27, 1990, lot 1079. Literature: Otis Fall (1785-1846) was a ship captain, and owned a house and shop on Fore Street in 1821. He married Frances Tredick Fall (1785-1837), daughter of Captain Henry Tredick, Sr. Otis Fall served as administrator of his father in law's estate.
