Description
Early 19th century Swiss automaton box attributed to Frères Rochat displaying a central oval gold-tone pendant that opens to reveal a pierced and chaised grill from which a multi-color singing bird appears. Beak opens and closes, and wings flap while singing. With hinged hidden compartment for the key - we do not have the original key, but an unoriginal later companion key is present. From a Mamaroneck, NY estate. Dimensions: box measures approx. 4" w x 2.75" d x 1.5" h.
Condition
Good with general wear. Losses/chips to the edges - specifically to the bottom edge of one side. Wear to the gold-tone finish. Tape/adhesive residue present in several areas. Please take note that the bird and hinged top no longer hinge closed automatically at the completion of the song.
