Description
A French Lalique Paris frosted Crystal glass sculpture, Bamara Lion. Mounted on a half moon base. Marked with an engraved mark, Lalique R France. Circa: the second half of the 20th century. Lalique is a French Glassmaker, founded by renowned glassmaker and jeweller Rene Lalique in 1888. Lalique is best known for producing glass art, including perfume bottles, vases, and hood ornaments during the early twentieth century. It was on her return from a trip to Africa that Marie Claude Lalique enlarged the family bestiary with animals such as the lion and the panther. Bamara is the name of a town in the Central African Republic, and means lion in sango, the main language spoken in the country. The original was made of colourless crystal, but black and amber versions of the Bamara lion were produced later on.
