Description
Large Italian Blue and White, Glazed Terracotta Urn, 19th c., with applied handles, the sides with landscape decoration, H.- 17 1/2 in., W.- 14 1/2 in., D.- 12 in. Provenance: “Little Oaks,” Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, the private collection of Dr. Donald & Deborah Bell.
Condition
Vase has had several campaigns of restoration. The right handle and much of the rim have been repaired and overpainted. The left handle has been repaired (and is slightly lighter in color) and the center of the back of the vase has been repaired with a filler that corresponds to a long horizontal crack on the inside. There is a 2 inch crack to the non-repaired portion of the rim and scattered chips. Most of the foot rim is lacking. There are several losses to the masks. Vase is with scattered chips and crazing to glaze throughout.
