An important landmark in Victorian literature, Vanity Fair epitomized the turn towards realism and psychological truth. Early printing, with points including: dedication leaf in small type with last line measuring 2¼ inches; heading on page 1 in rustic type; woodcut of the Marquis of Steyne on page 336; "Mr. Pitt" rather than "Sir Pitt" on page 453. Van Duzer 231; Wolff 6699. Original (soiled) printed front wrapper from fourth part (April) bound in at beginning, spine from cloth edition laid down on blank leaf and bound in at rear. Bookplate of Lynde Selden and larger armorial "Selden" bookplate.
