A Napoleon III ormolu mounted porcelain and tulipwood gueridon or vide poche
Circa 1865
The projecting eared oval quarter veneered top inset with an elongated quatrefoil form and parcel gilt porcelain dish painted with Watteauesque fete galante figures reclining in an idealised Italianate landscape, within floral borders, each projecting ear inset with an oval painted plaque depicting a putto, above a floral embedded tasselled drapery swag mounted apron, on a double baluster shaped porcelain column decorated with flowers and a putto within flowering cartouches, interspersed by gilt bronze fluted, foliate, cabochon and guilloche cast collars, terminating in four downswept S-scrolled legs mounted with husk pendants, vine leaf swags and rosettes, with scrolled acanthus capped and floral sabots, on bone castors, approximate diameter of the top: 53cm; 75cm high.

Although the offered lot is of a fairly typical type found among 19th century furniture, which is generally referred to as a gueridon but equally just as much an occasional table or vide poche, this particular example is especially unusual and interesting for its incorporation of a porcelain stem.
