Item Details
Description
A stunning pair of Scandinavian modern lounge chairs designed by Hvidt & Mølgaard, a Copenhagen-based, Danish design and architectural firm founded by Peter Hvidt and Orla Mølgaard-Nielsen, active from 1944-2009. This duo is credited as a pioneering force in Danish mid-century furniture, with their designs some of the most highly sought in the Scandinavian modern catalog. These "Boomerang" lounge chairs are no exception, featuring pleasingly symmetrical "L" shaped sides in quality teak, with delicately splayed legs in warm brass. New gray wool upholstery is reminiscent of the period wool these chairs may have sported, but is clean and plush, ready for home use. Rubber-coated springs act as back and seat support to give these chairs a comfortable amount of give, for optimal relaxing, while still providing sturdy support. Marked "Made in Denmark" underneath chair rail, marked to seat rail with decal. France & Son, one of Denmark's leading mid-20th century furniture manufacturers, was founded in 1948 by the British businessman Charles France and his Danish partner Eric Daverkosen. In the early years the company was called France & Daverkosen, Charles’s son James joined the company in 1957 which resulted in the name change to France & Son. These chairs have an early France & Daverkosen decal to the seat rim, indicating they were likely produced in the early 1950's, pre-1957. Dimensions: H 31" x W 24" x D 28" x SH 16" Condition: Wear consistent with age and use. Tarnish and scratches to brass legs. Some losses to rubber coating on springs. T100
