Date: 1874
Description: The English-American Unitarian theologian, philosopher, chemist and physicist Priestley first described the representation and effect of oxygen in 1771 and of nitrous oxide in 1772. He discovered representations of numerous other gases such as nitrogen dioxide and carbon monoxi.Inscribed below the depiction "Dr. Priestley / Engraved by G. Stodart from the statue by J. F. Williamson /D. Appleton & Company New York". Collector's stamp "G.E.S." on verso.

Condition
Good condition. The image makes a very good impression. The sheet is browned and foxed due to its age, slightly bumped along the edges in places.
