Inscription: The copper engraving was produced in red colour, which was used only rarely and for special occasions, especially in the 18th century. Inscribed below the image in Dutch and Latin: "Naamen, in het landschap van die naam, op het zaamen vloeyen van Maas en Sambre: door de Fransche gewonnen, 1692, door Koning Willem 1693, doch heden weder onder de Fransche Haar gesicht is in ons Stede bock ; Parallel title: Namurcum, ad Mosæ ac Sabis confluentes: cessit Gallis, 1692; Wilhelmo regi, 1693; hodie tamen rursus Gallis. Conspectus eius in Hecatompoli". Signed in the plate and with indication of place: "Pet. Schenk exc. Amst C. P.".

Description: From: "Frederik den Femtes Atlas, Vol. 12, Tvl. 57.". Peter Schenk the Elder was a German engraver and cartographer from Elberfeld, now part of Wuppertal. Around 1684 he moved to Amsterdam and became a pupil of Gerard Valck, specialising in mezzotint; he travelled to Leipzig and Berlin. Until his death in 1718/19 he published numerous maps and pictures.
