Description
Large Pair of Sevres Jeweled Covered Vases, early 19thc., baluster forms with gilt bronze scroll handles and mounts, each finely painted with a charming scene, one with a couple with a small dog dressed as a harlequin entertainer, the other with a couple enticing a robed cat to read a love letter, the obverse sides decorated with a cluster of flowers and fruits, all reserved within tooled gilded borders with applied enameled 'jewels' on a cobalt blue ground, the squared gilt bronze bases engraved "Louis Seize a Marie Antoinette, 1772."
Dimensions: 23 in.h.
Condition: Both vases lacking most turquoise jewels to the center paintings, some jewels lacking from the covers and feet, some wear to gilding. Some scuffs to covers, some kiln ash marks to floral clusters.
