Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington (1769-1852). Autograph Letter Twice Signed, "Wellington", once within the letter and again at closing, 1p, 4.5" x 7", London, April 9, 1825, settling an account for £515. Flattened folds. Soiling, foxing and toning. Remnants of adhesive at left margin with chipping to edge. Tape repair to central horizontal fold on verso. With scattered pencil notations from previous collector.
Arthur Wellesley was an Anglo-Irish statesman, soldier, and Tory politician who was one of the leading military and political figures of nineteenth century Britain, serving twice as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. He is among the commanders who won and ended the Napoleonic Wars when the Seventh Coalition defeated Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815.
