DESCRIPTION: Promotional poster for a closed circuit showing of Muhammad Ali's October 26, 1970 return bout against Jerry Quarry at the Rajah Theater (now Santander Performing Arts Center) in Reading, Pennsylvania. Poster advertises that the Atlanta-based fight would not be televised, with only select theaters across the country showcasing the match. This would be the first fight of Muhammad Ali (noted on this poster under this name and his birth name of Cassius Clay) after he refused to register for the Vietnam War draft in 1967, costing him his boxing license in every state and loss of his passport. Ali would ultimately defeat Quarry in three rounds. A rare poster, with most similar ones having been destroyed after the fight. Paper on cardboard backing. MEASUREMENTS: 21-7/8" high x 13-7/8" wide. CONDITION: Horizontal bending to cardboard approximately two thirds of the way up. Staining to top, bottom, and left edge of paper. Foxing throughout. Paper loss to bottom right corner.
