This is a wonderful antique piece dedicated to renowned author Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832). The paddle is heavily engraved with a rendering of the author in the center, in ribbon details around the edges are titles of some of his works including Faust, Iphigenie, Egmont. The ribbon along the bottom is in reference to his date of birth, 28 August 1749. There is no visible marks as far as manufacturer or silver content, acid tests as sterling. Measures approx 10.5" long, overall approx weight 62g, handle is not hollow. Unsure of age, but note there is no date of death for Goethe visible.

Visually displays very well with the image and writing along edges legible. It has a crack in the silver near the handle as shown, also looks to have been repaired. Paddle is very thin.
