The basket hilted handle is beautifully crafted with a pierced decoration, leading to a double edged blade, held within a scabbard on a short chain. The letter opener is hallmarked London 1873, made by the silversmith E.H. Stockwell, and stamped with the retailer's mark of Thornhill, 144 New Bond St. The scabbard is stamped with a kite registration mark.Assay: - .925 Sterling Silver.Date: - 1873.Period: - 19th Century.Maker: - E.H. Stockwell.Engraving: - The sword is engraved '378'.Measurement: - The letter opener measures 15.3 cm in length x 2.9cm (basket hilt width) x 2.6cm (basket hilt depth).
