Description
A rare collection of three handmade dolls by Marilyn Neuhart for Alexander Girard's Textile & Objects. Made of linen, silk, and wool. Created in 1961. Textile & Objects was a retail store in New York City that blurred the lines between high and low, art and design, function and form. Alexander Girard was so smitten with Marilyn Neuhart's dolls that he asked her to make 100 for the 1961 opening of his Textile & Objects store. Neuhart's design aesthetic for the dolls was a perfect fit for Girard's signature bright colors and passion for folk art that guided his own creations. From 1980 to 1988, Marilyn and her husband were partners in the firm Neuhart Donges Neuhart, which boasted IBM, Herman Miller, and the Getty Museum among its clients. They also co-authored several books about the Eames Office informed by their time associated with the Office. From the estate of Anna Kenedi, prominent first female designer and architect for Herman Miller. Dimensions: 13"h x 7.5"w x 3"d (large doll); 9.25"h x 7"w x 3"d (medium doll); 6.75"h x 5"w x 2.5"d (small doll). In very good vintage condition.
