Description
A George III sterling silver fruit or dessert bowl, London 1778 by Thomas Pitts In the Neoclassical style, of oval form upon a spreading oval foot, the upper section with a beaded rim. The body with fluted decoration below a band of pierced slats and embossed roundels, each side with a circular cartouche, engraved with a crest of a stag’s head erased encircled in a Scottish clan crest badge and motto Spero Meliora. Fitted with a removable ‘blown-in’ blue glass liner with a star cut base. Fully marked underneath. Length – 24 cm / 9.5 inches Weight – 521 grams / 16.75 ozt The crest and motto are for Laird of Glenhuntley, Scotland
