Howard Hancock Newman (American, B. 1943) Bronze Sculpture #2/3, 1971-1972, "A Young Man's Fancy", H 14'' W 5'' | Hallmarked on base "H. Newman 2/3". According to Howard Newman, this work was sculpted and cast when he lived outside of Florence, Italy - while studying and working during his Fulbright scholarship. This was one of his first bronze sculptures and was cast by the Fonderia d'Arte Del Chiaro in Pietrasanta, Italy. Because Mr. Newman received his MFA as a silversmith at the Rhode Island School of design, he chose to sign his earliest works using the same hallmark stamp he used for his silver sculptures. This edition of three sculptures was sold to a London, England dealer while Mr. Newman was still living in Italy. Upon his return to America, Mr. Newman's work was exclusively represented by Arne Ekstrom of Cordier & Ekstrom Gallery, NY. During his time with Cordier & Ekstrom, the gallery hosted six one man exhibitions of Mr. Newman's work.
