Description
Celtic bronze handle and two Roman keys1) S-shaped curved solid handle, rectangular in cross-section, ending in a leaf at the bottom, the internal structure of which is represented by incised decoration. Punched decoration above in the lower part of the handle. At the top the handle ends in a stylised bull's head, through which an iron ring was passed, remnants of which are still in the hole. Behind the horns a hinge for the lid, behind it a knob for the handle. Toning over a golden ground (river patina). Height 21 cm. 2) Two iron keys with beard protruding at right angles from the handle. Wide grip plates with perforations at the rear end. On one example the grip plate is covered with bronze in an overcasting. The surface of the cladding profiled several times. Bronze cladding broken off on the underside. Length 10.5 cm each.Provenance: South German private collection.Condition: II -
