Hard boards, original cloth with gold lettering on front board and spine, [a little soiling and wear], 5.3/4" x 8.1/4"; 398 pages, very good condition.

The author's first novel to appear under his own name (he had previously published a biography of Lincoln and two pseudonymous detective novels.

Raymond Peckham Holden (1894-1972) was a novelist, poet and publisher. Holden worked for several prominent American magazines, including The New Yorker, Reader’s Digest, and Newsweek. He also authored his own books and contributed poetry to journals.
