SOMM, HENRY (FRANCOIS CLEMENT SOMMIER).1844-1907. La Berline de l'émigré ou jamais trop tard. Paris: Leon Vanier, 1885.
8vo (191 x 116 mm). Extra-illustrated, with frontispiece and 44 illustrations in ink, pencil and watercolor, hand-drawn by Henry Somm. Contemporary three-quarter red morocco and patterned boards, marbled endpapers. Corners bumped, foxing, a few tipped-in illustrations coming loose.

EXTRA-ILLUSTRATED LIMITED EDITION, number 16 of an edition of only 50 on Japan paper, with a penciled notation by the artist on the verso of the front free endpaper, attributing this copy to Rodolphe Salis, creator of the Chat Noir cabaret in the Montmartre. The play is a bawdy scatological farce, set in a public toilet, which was played out by puppets designed by Somm and George Auriol. Cf.
