CIVIL WAR BATTLEFIELD RECOVERED RELICS, LOT OF FOUR, each with attached note, comprising a marked Gaylord/Shepard US carbine sling buckle recovered near the Port Republic battlefield; a spur with leather strap found on the battlefield at McDowell; an officer's stirrup from the Winchester battlefield; and a bullet found on the New Market battlefield. Three with ID tag from S.W. Lauck, Harrisonburg to Mrs. C. H. Revercomb, Covington, VA. Third quarter 19th century. Stirrup 6 1/4" x 5".
Catalogue Note: Samuel William Lauck (1864-1931) was born in Frederick Co., VA, the son of gunsmith Simon Lauck (1816-1901). By 1900 he had relocated to Harrisonburg, VA, where he became a successful businessman. Mrs. C. H. Revercomb (1871-1948) was the wife of Charles Howard Revercomb (1863-1949), a prosperous farmer and postmaster of Covington, VA.
