CAMPOLI, Cosmo (American,1922-1997) Three Untitled Sculptures from “Spumoni Village” plus ephemera. ca. 1977. A cone shaped sculpture with four breasts as the base of the work with four double faced circles above the base, then capped with a found object decorated cone. An early hologram on a sheet of plastic with a psychedelic pattern on photo emulsion was originally attached to this artwork as a shade and is now separated. This sculpture is very fragile. 4 ½ x 4 x 3”; A baby’s booty turned into a car with buttons for wheels and peach pits for a front bumper with a tiny plastic doll as passenger. Paint, glitter and found objects adorn this eccentric shoe car. 3 x 5 ½ x 3 ½”. A baby’s sandal decorated with paint and glitter. 1 ½ x 5 x 3”. All sculptures have elements of paint, glitter, adhesives and found objects. This lot includes 26 pieces on paper: Spumoni Village exhibition card, original handwritten commentary/text art pieces, various invites and posters with other related Campoli ephemera. Campoli was a Chicago-based sculptor. He was a member of a group of School of the Art Institute of Chicago artists collectively dubbed the "Monster Roster" by critic Franz Schulze in the late 1950s. That group included, among others, Leon Golub, George Cohen, June Leaf, H.C. Westermann, Seymour Rosofsky, and Theodore Halkin. Sculptures all have various levels of surface dirt and grime. Cone sculpture is made of a fragile unknown material and has cracked and separated areas at and near the base with one section of loss. Hologram sheet has tear and pinholes. The ephemera has random areas of creases, bends, folds, tears and loss. All good condition for fragility and age.
