Description
China, Han Dynasty (206 BC-220 AD). The rider is well modeled wearing a short tunic and a close-fitting helmet, his hands positioned to rein his spirited horse shown with its neck arched, and ears pricked, its powerful body adorned with red and black trappings.
Condition: Good condition, commensurate with age, with repairs as expected from Han dynasty excavations. Wear to the pigments, encrustations, and minor chips.
Provenance: From an Austrian private collection, acquired at Galerie Zacke in 2000. A copy of the certificate (including various TL tests from samples taken from other pottery equestrians, offered at the time) issued in the year 2000 by Galerie Zacke accompanies this lot.
