He devoted himself mainly to sculpture during the early part of his career, before the First World War. He was mainly prominent as a political artist. His satirical illustrations - characterised by angular volumes that can also be found in his sculpture - are well known, which he published in various media, including the magazine Kladderadatsch, with which he collaborated during the 1920s.
