Description
After Jacques Lipchitz, American French, 1891 to 1973, abstract bronze sculpture Hagar. Signed to the base. Hagar is a biblical woman. According to the Book of Genesis, she was an Egyptian slave, a handmaiden of Sarah, whom Sarah gave to her own husband Abram as a wife to bear him a child. Jacques Lipchitz was a Cubist sculptor. Lipchitz retained highly figurative and legible components in his work leading up to 1916, after which naturalist and descriptive elements were muted, dominated by a synthetic style of Crystal Cubism. Modernist Sculptures And American Art Collectibles.
