CHURCHILL, WINSTON S. Printed invitation to a Royal Academy of Arts exhibition Signed, "WSChurchill," as a member of the Academy, to an unnamed recipient. The invitation, for a private viewing of the Summer Exhibition scheduled for May 4, 1956. 4½x6¼ inches; paperclip impression at upper edge. Np, circa May 1956 In 1947 and 1948, paintings submitted by Churchill to the Royal Academy of Arts were accepted for exhibition in the Academy's annual Summer Exhibition. To avoid any influence his name might exert upon the consideration of his submission, Churchill used the pseudonym "David Winter." After revealing his true name, the Academy awarded Churchill the distinction of "Honorary Academician Extraordinary" in 1948.
