A PAIR OF LONG ANTIQUE ITALIAN POLYCHROMED SCABELLOS
18th Century


The shaped straight backs are exuberantly painted with scrollwork and heraldic shields with crests. The crests are surrounded by burgundy, ochre, gris and verte paint over a gesso base. The back surmounts a faux marble seat which lifts open for storage. The apron features similar motifs on the shaped apron and scroll feet.
Very nicely preserved without restoration. Some losses of pigment exposing gesso.

58 x 42 x 14 inches (147.3 x 106.7 x 35.6 cm).
Two pieces total.
