PONTING (HERBERT GEORGE)A collection of 54 views, taken during Robert Falcon Scott's British Antarctic Expedition, 1910-1913, undertaken on the Terra Nova, gelatin silver prints, a few with pencil annotations on verso, 24 mounted on grey card (138 x 194mm.), others loose, images typically 130 x 175mm. or similar, 6 smaller (approx. 110 x 80mm.), 1910-1913 [printed later]Footnotes:A good group including portraits (Bowers with horse; Evans with sledge; group including Scott and Oates, etc.), Terra Nova (in the ice, a cabin, etc.), activities on the ice beside the hut (packing 'Patent Cardiff' coal briquettes; measuring a dead seal), icebergs (one at night) and ice floes, huskies, seals and penguins. Includes many lesser known images, including for instance a fine view of the Siberian Ponies aboard Terra Nova, posed without Oates.
