Africa 1905' [titled on upper cover], 241 original gelatin silver prints mounted on 17 leaves (recto and verso), all with printed caption and photographer's name beneath the image, publisher's half vellum, soiled, short tear to lower part of spine, oblong folio (370 x 495mm.), [1905]Footnotes:Album of good photographs, taken by members of the expedition, commemorating the the British Association for the Advancement of Science's meeting held in South Africa in 1905. Includes views of the voyage out (Madeira, Canary Islands) and return (Mombasa in Kenya, Umtali in Zimbabwe, Mozambique) but the majority of views show South Africa, including major cities and scenes, diamond mining operations including machinery and the Chinese and Kaffir workers, street scenes and markets, local inhabitants including Zulu groups. Photographers, or subjects include well known scientists from the expedition including Sir William Crookes, H. Yule Oldham, George Darwin (son of Charles), John T.
