George Strahan (British, 1839-1913)Gangabal Lake, India; A view thought to be near Rampur, Jhelum Valley, Kashmir, a set of two the first signed and dated 'GStrahan/1903' (lower left); the second signed and dated 'GStrahan/1897' (lower right)watercolour heightened with whitethe first 44.8 x 67.6cm (17 5/8 x 26 5/8in); the second 67.6 x 45.1cm (26 5/8 x 17 3/4in). (2)
Condition
Both works have been examined out of their frames.
-Gangabal Lake, India:
Please note the work is inscribed in pencil on the reverse 'Gangabal Lake - Kashmir/R 100'
The work appears to be in good colour.
There are signs of light acidification throughout the sheet and spots of browning and foxing scattered throughout.
Mount staining is visible along each edge of the sheet but this is not visible within the mount.
There are a couple of pin holes to each of the lower corners. These are not visible when viewed within the mount.
The sheet has been hinged to the card mount and taped along the top edge.
