Decorative ceramic plate, 9.5 in. dia., in honor of the reunification of the Saar region with Germany. Depicts Adolf Hitler shaking hands with a citizen from the Saar region with an eagle with a swastika on its breast in the background. The text around the border reads: ‘Deutsch ist Die Saar – Deutsch immerdar 13. Januar 1935’ (‘The Saar is German – German Forever January 13, 1935’). The name of the artist ‘Georg Poppe’ appears above the date. The base bears the faded stamp of the maker ‘Waechtersbach’. Next to the maker mark is a serial number, no longer discernible. Minor chip to bottom rim, else very good.
