Description
White porcelain bell-shaped coin bank, 3.75 x 4.5 in., a replica of the Olympic Bell installed at the Olympiastadion built in Berlin for the 1936 Summer Olympics. Displays the German Olympic eagle on one side and the Brandenburg Gate opposite, the dates of the games also in relief at bottom. At the top is a slot for insertion of coins and bills. Interestingly, this particular example has been repurposed as a candle. The original metal portion of the base has been covered with a new plate, so the lock is now obscured by a screw, and the top slot bears a wick. The base is marked ‘Erzeugnis der Porzellanstadt Selb Bayer. Ostmark’ (‘Produced in the Porcelain City of Bayer, Austria’). No maker mark. Some soiling to the base, else fine.
