Description
Original custom-piece, an OD green twill field made jacket, with a wool lined interior. Sewn to the left sleeve is a tank destroyer battalion patch, depicting a panther crushing a tank between its teeth. This heavy winter jacket bears three pockets and five plastic buttons at the front. The lining bears a 9.5 in. tear at the bottom seam, else very good. Tank destroyer units were comprised of either a towed battalion equipped with anti-tank guns, or a mechanized battalion equipped with armored self-propelled guns. During World War II over one hundred battalions were formed, more than half of which saw combat, though they were disbanded postwar.
