Description
Rare photographic commemorative brochure issued by Hamburg shipbuilders Blohn & Voss for a 'Reich Professional Competition 1938', 8pp. 11.75 x 7.75 in. Four full-page photographs comprise the brochure, with images of the Adolf Hitler and Robert Ley at the christening of the ill-fated passenger ship WILHELF GUSTLOFF; the vessel at dock following her launching; the catapult seaplane 'Nordmeer'; and the ARTHUR F. CORWIN, a British tanker which ironically would be sunk by U-93 and U-96 of Feb. 13, 1941. The master, 44 crew members and one gunner were lost. The sinking of the WILHELM GUSTLOFF by a Russian submarine in the closing days of the war resulted in almost 10,000 deaths - the highest loss from a ship sinking ever. Some marginal ink erosion, else very good.
