Interesting T.L.S. 1p. 8vo., London, Apr. 26, 1945, by Brigadier General RICHARD D. TINDALL, Military Attache, American Embassy, in which he passes on a recommendation from for a citation. In part: '...I enclose herewith a letter written by Kenneth R. Martin, USAAF, while a prisoner of war in Stalag Luft III recommending a citation for British medical personnel at Obermassfeld for their exceptional conduct and service to the prisoners in Stalag Luft III. The Commanding General, United States Forces in the European Theater of Operations, has requested that I transmit to you his appreciation of the work of these medical personnel on behalf of the American forces...'. Included is the typed text of the citation, in part: '...Entire Personnel of Obermassfeld Hospital. Your voluntary administrations to the wounded American soldiers, has resulted in the saving of many lives. Working long hours for many months without sufficient supplies and equipment, you have cheerfully given your best efforts to ease the sufferings of these young men...your devotion and loyalty to your many patients will long be remembered...'. Kenneth R. Marin (1916-2001) commanded the 354th Pioneer Mustang fighter group. He was badly injured when he collided with a German Me-410 on Feb. 11, 1944, and was captured and imprisoned at Stalag Luft III. Matted and set in a gold frame without glass, worthy of proper display.
