Description
Dutch silver footed inkstand with rosette and scroll decorated scalloped rim, with two cavities for pens on each side, the center featuring paw and acanthus galleries which hold ink pots and flank a bell. The stand shows Dutch late 18th - early 19th century marks to the underside including the first grade silver standard mark for the Province of Holland, the town mark of Amsterdam, a partly illegible mark which may be overstruck makers and date marks, a mid-late 19th century British import mark and illegible importers mark; the bell shows a faded Dutch makers mark which appears to read "FG"; one ink pot cover shows partly illegible British sterling marks which appear to be for London, 1816, and maker "CW" (possibly Charles Watts), and the other ink pot cover is unmarked but tests for silver. The stand is engraved with a coat of arms and crest, and each silver piece shows the same crest. Includes a worn feather quill. The rims of the glass ink pots are chipped and there are scattered fleabites; there are two splits and a small puncture to the rim of the stand; the stand has a missing bolt for one of the galleries. Inkstand 1"h x 12" x 12", jars 2.5"h, bell 5.5". 39.14 ozt excluding glass
