WWI 2 STAR SON in SERVICE FLAG, EXPERTLY HANDMADE SILK, MAJ ALLEN P & W COWGILL

World War I Era Hand Made Silk SERVICE FLAG With Two Stars Indicating Two Service Members in the Family. Patriotic hand made (machine sewn) white silk banner with red border and two "peek-a-boo" blue stars with decorative chain stitched border. Lot also includes a SERVICE PIN and set of 8 service stamps. Also found with the Flag is a business card for Allen Parker Cowgill - United States Corps Engineers.

Research indicates that Major Allen Parker Cowgill graduated from US Military Academy in 1914. He served in the US Army during the Mexican War and WWI, earning several awards and medals. His brother, William Warwick Cowgill graduated from US Military Academy in 1917. He served as Aide-de-Camp for Major General Harry Foote Hodges in 1917 and went overseas with him, serving in the Pasiondale Ridge Campaign, offensive against Verdun, saw action at Soissons, and commanded the 1st Battalion, 20th Field Artillery with the 3rd Army of Occupation after the Armistice in Germany.

Patriotic silk banner SERVICE FLAG carefully made by an expert seamstress, presumably proudly displayed, by a family with two sons honorably serving their country during World War I. Approximate flag size is 7-1/2" x 14-1/2". Condition: light soiling and staining, occasional edge wear and small tears. Please see photos for additional condition review.
