14th c. ShÅhei Japanese Naginata Pole Weapon | Weapon consists of a wooden pole with a curved single-edged forged removable blade. The blade has a long tang (nakago) inserted in the end of the shaft reinforced with a metal collar (habaki), and secured with a wooden peg mekugi ( 目釘 ) that passes through a single hole (mekugi-ana) located approx. 4" below the end of the pole. The tachiuchi/tachiuke is reinforced with an approx. 3" long metal sleeve (sakawa) (possibly copper alloy). Approx. Size: 67" in total length; blade is 17" in length x 1.5" wide at curve and 1.25" wide at its base.
