Edward Cranch was an attorney in Cincinnati who was involved with Rookwood since it was founded by Maria Longworth-Nichols. Cranch often decorated pieces with whimsical narratives..................Born in Washington DC on May 29, 1809, Edward Pope Cranch moved to Cincinnati around 1831. He was an attorney by trade, but also an accomplished illustrator and lecturer. He occasionally decorated pottery for Rookwood between 1882 until his death in 1892. His artwork tends towards a single-colored outline, including farm scenes, owls, and vultures. His work is normally found on utility-ware such as dishes, mugs, tankards, and pitchers.
