Description
A fine and rare antique 19th century silver gilt compote bowl on a pedestal foot by D.C. Rait and Sons, Glasgow, circa 1861. The undulating shaped bowl with a plain interior base features elaborately pierced flared sides and everted rim decorated with repousse scroll and foliate motifs. The pedestal foot is decorated in the same style. Hallmarked with a makers mark, lion passant, crowned leopard for London assay mark, and a duty mark depicting a female head in profile. Engraved: D.S. Rait and Sons, Glasgow. British Sterling Silver Table and Desk Wares, Home Decor, and Collectibles. Weight 518 grams
