1991, carved stone, base front and verso with incised signature, dated to verso.

Native American artist, Rollie Anthony Grandbois, was born in 1954 on the Turtle Mountain Indian Reservation, Belcourt, North Dakota. Rollie was best known as a stone sculptor, specializing in Native American and semi-abstract works that varied in sizes ranging from small table top works to other colossal pieces weighing 23 tons. He often used of a hydraulic-powered diamond chainsaw to model his sculptures, and preferred Tennessee limestone as his medium. Rollie was also a gifted instructor, even counting the great musical legend, Bob Dylan, as one that received his private sculpting instruction in 1998.
Rollie served in the U.S. Army from 1972-1974, and also served in the 101st Airborne Division, 187 Infantry Company, where he trained as a paratrooper. studio was located in the Jemez mountains of New Mexico.
