Gustave Van Vaerenbergh (Belgian, 1873-1927), Bust of a Maiden
gilt bronze and alabaster, signed "G. V. Vaerenbergh" to verso, mounted upon a polished ochre marble plinth.
18 x 10 3/4 x 5 1/2 in.
The figure possibly a representation of Joan of Arc given the fleur-de-lys diadem. A coat of arms (featuring fleur-de-lys and crowned sword) and nobility were granted to her family by Charles VII circa 1429. Her family was also authorized to adopt the name of Du Lys.

Condition
Good estate condition; small abrasion to bridge of nose; some marks to gilt; plinth with dark linear seam, later nut and washer to underside.
