Featured in this lot is this 1976 pinball machine titled, "Fiesta" made by Playmatic. During the 1970s and 1980s, the Spanish company Playmatic was active in the pinball market. A group of engineers and designers with a passion for pinball founded the business in 1968 in Barcelona. Playmatic initially concentrated primarily on creating electro-mechanical pinball machines, which were the industry standard at the time. The "Carnival" pinball machine from the company was unveiled in 1972. This was followed by a string of popular pinball machines that were enjoyed worldwide, including "Fandango," "Space Gambler," and "Cherry Bell." Due to their enhanced reliability and cutting-edge features, solid-state pinball machines began to gain popularity in the late 1970s, when Playmatic first began to produce them. Some of the company's most successful solid-state machines include "Black Fever", "Flash Gordon", and "The Party Zone". The artwork on Playmatic's pinball machines was renowned for being vibrant and intricate, frequently including complex illustrations and detailed back glasses. Additionally, the company placed a high value on gameplay and innovation, and many of their machines came equipped with distinctive features like captive ball playfields, spinning targets, and multi-level playfields. Despite their success, Playmatic found themselves up against bigger pinball producers like Williams, Bally, and Gottlieb in the 1980s, and the company eventually stopped making games in the middle of the decade. The pinball machine shows a fiesta style graphic on the back glass of the machine showing a man and woman dancing together while a man in the background plays a guitar. Above the man playing the guitar is a mounted bull head. On the left side of the back glass, it shows players 1 through 4 and their scores. The playing field shows a neck of a guitar and portion of its body as the main graphic set in the center of the playing field. The playing field features targets, bumpers and light up lights throughout. The bottom shows instructions and how to score major points. The machine shows guitar decals on the side as well. The machine shows colors of red, black, orange, yellow, pink, purple, green and blue throughout. The machine is in parts, the back glass is broken and repaired with tape, some fading to the paint. Some of the internal electrical components are present, some wires appear cut, does not function. It measures 54 1/4" L x 28 3/4" W x 71" H.
