Description
Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A hand-built pottery vessel of an unusual form on a pedestal foot, all slipped in a rich red hue. The pedestal foot has 3 pierced openings and a deep concave base supporting a globular body with a thick neck that tapers upward to a narrow, circular opening. Given its form, it is possible that this piece was used for hallucinogenic enema ceremonies, a practice that was popular among Pre-Columbian cultures. Size: 3.5" Diameter x 8.5" H (8.9 cm x 21.6 cm)
