Vase features classical motifs including an allegorical scene: One side depicts Nyx, the Greek goddess of night, bearing a torch in her outstretched arm, while riding an owl, amongst stars and bats; The other side has an engraved intertwined 'GM' monogram to a Rococo shell cartouche, above opposing mermaid babies surrounded by floral sprays; The whole is further raised on scrolled acanthus feet. Impressed metal mark to underside 'Sterling'. 71.9 ozt.

Vase presents in very good condition with minor signs of wear commensurate with age and use. Repaired with later soldered disc to underside (marked 'Sterling'), as the vase was possibly previously mounted to a plinth or used as a lamp base.
