Description
DESCRIPTION: "Annunciation & Adoration of the Magi". Fra Angelico (12th-13th Century). Tempura & gilt paint on wood panel. Unsigned. Framed inside tabernacle. Was an early Renaissance painter and monk known as "the Angelic Painter". His works were the framework of early Renaissance art. Throughout his career he completed religious altarpieces and frescoes for the priory of San Marco in Florence. MEASUREMENTS: 16-3/4" high x 9-3/4" wide; tabernacle 35" high x 17-1/2" wide. CONDITION: Missing most of foliate grape and vine decoration with repair to remaining piece. Both side columns are loose. Paint on the top of wood panel is missing. Craquelure to the top of the painting. Paint on top of tabernacle is chipping. MEG IMPORTANT: Before bidding, please read the terms and conditions.
