Description
Attributed to Alexandre Kouprine (Russian, 1880 - 1960), oil on canvas Still Life with Vase of Flowers. Signed lower left. Framed.Note: Alexander Kuprin was among the founding members of the Jack of Diamond group (1910). He studied at the workshops of L. Dmitriev-Kavkazskiy (1902–1910) in St. Petersburg and K. Juon (1904–1906) in Moscow, as well as at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (1906–1910). In 1913 –1914 he made a journey to Italy and France. His work was thoroughly influenced by Ilya Mashkov and Paul Cézanne; he was among the most consistent Russian Cezannists. Apart from the Jack of Diamond, Kuprin was a member of the Society of Moscow Artists and the Moscow Painters group. In the late 1910s and 1920s, his works showed a cubist tendency.
