A beautiful jingasa, from Edo period. The dragonfly on the front is an important samurai symbol because this insect always moves forward, like the samurai on the battlefield. The inside is lacquered red and covered with Christian symbol, a rarity that indicates a Christian samurai owner. Christian symbols were hidden because Christianity was forbidden in Japan in the early 1600s. Measures 13 inches diameter x 6 H.
