Biography: 1913 - 2004. Erna Rosenstein (1913 - 2004) Erna Rosenstein studied in the years 1932-1934 at the Wiener Frauen Akademie, and then in the years 1934-1936 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow under the supervision of Professor Wojciech Weiss. In the years of her studies, she was associated with the first group of the "Krakowska Group", she participated in the preparation of the Cricot theater performances, she herself appeared in the play "Lajkonik Krakowski".In 1937 she left for Paris for a short time. Just before the Second World War, she moved to Lviv. After escaping from the local ghetto, she hid in Warsaw. After the Uprising she stayed in Grodzisk and Czestochowa, and after the war she returned to Krakow.She exhibited with Grupa Mlodych Plastyków (1946) and at the 1st Exhibition of Modern Art (1948/49). In Kraków she married Artur Sandauer. In 1949 she moved to Warsaw. She began to exhibit her back in 1955, and from 1957 she became involved with the reactivated, so-called the second "Krakow Group".She participated in the Second and Third Exhibitions of Modern Art, Warsaw 1957 and 1959, and in many exhibitions, plein-aire and symposia of the avant-garde movement of the 1960s, including regularly at the Koszalin Open Air Theater in Osieki (1964-1978) and others.She also appeared many times at the Festivals of Polish Contemporary Painting in Szczecin (1962-1988), Krakow Meetings, Festivals of Fine Arts in Warsaw's Zacheta, She created paintings, drawings, collages, author's books and spatial objects, for whom the common denominator is surrealism, expressed in surprising, poetic juxtapositions of significant elements, oneiric metaphorics, richness of associations and imagination. The artist is also an acknowledged poet, has published several volumes of poems, etc. in Czytelnik and Wydawnictwo Literackie.
